Tehran says ‘no military solution’ to Hormuz reopening

Iran has said that reopening the Strait of Hormuz cannot be achieved through military force, signaling that Tehran sees diplomacy and negotiations as the way forward amid continuing tensions with the United States.
The statement comes as the strategically vital waterway remains effectively closed to normal international shipping. The strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is one of the world's most important energy routes.
Tehran’s position: Iran has tied a full reopening to a number of conditions, including an end to U.S. military pressure and the naval blockade, the lifting of sanctions, compensation for damage caused by attacks, and the release of frozen Iranian assets.

Iranian officials have also indicated that the waterway will not simply return to its pre-war operating conditions. Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad said Monday that Hormuz would not return to the situation that existed before the conflict.
Why Hormuz matters
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy chokepoint. Reuters reports that it previously handled roughly 20% of global oil and LNG supplies, meaning prolonged disruption can affect oil prices, shipping costs and energy security worldwide.
