At least 37 people have been killed after a Russian overnight drone attack struck a munitions warehouse near Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said on Saturday.

                                                                             

The attack hit a warehouse in Myla, in the Bucha district west of the Ukrainian capital. A series of powerful explosions followed the strike, triggering a massive fire that spread to nearby homes and a restaurant.

Kyiv region Governor Tymur Tkachenko said the death toll had risen to 37 as emergency crews continued rescue and recovery operations. Dozens of people were also injured, while around 400 residents were evacuated from the affected area.

The attack damaged at least 50 residential buildings, according to local authorities. Among those killed was Taras Didych, the mayor of Dmytrivska village.

Ukrainian prosecutors said the warehouse appeared to contain explosive materials and announced a criminal investigation into possible negligence. Authorities will examine whether the materials were legally stored and whether the company operating the facility had the required permits and safety approvals.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the warehouse strike was followed by a detonation. He stressed that ammunition should not be stored close to residential areas and said criminal proceedings would be launched over the incident.

                                                                           

Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said the tragedy highlighted failures to learn from an earlier deadly incident at a munitions facility near Kyiv. He argued that repeatedly ignoring ammunition-storage regulations amounted to criminal negligence and called for those responsible to face punishment.

According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched at least two missiles and 267 drones against Ukraine between late Friday and early Saturday.

The wider Russian assault also caused deaths in Kyiv. Officials reported that three people, including a two-year-old child and a 14-year-old girl, were killed in separate attacks in and around the capital.

Ukraine also carried out drone attacks inside Russia. At least three people were killed and nine others injured in the Belgorod region, according to Russian authorities. Three of those wounded were reportedly in serious condition.

In Russian-controlled Sevastopol, on the Crimean Peninsula, another person was killed and three others injured in a Ukrainian drone attack, according to the region’s Russian-appointed governor.

                                                                               

   

The latest strikes come as Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify long-range attacks. Both sides have increasingly targeted infrastructure and logistics facilities, including warehouses, oil installations and port facilities, resulting in a growing number of civilian casualties.
